Titi Ogunnaike
Yoruban storyteller Titi Ogunnaike and I have launched a multi-faceted program to bring traditional stories from Yoruba to families descended from this ancient African kingdom. Combining video recordings of regional royalty and Yoruban storytellers with audio programs and live performances, this project will capture some of the most transformative stories from the Yoruban repertoire.
These stories, which traveled with the slave trade to the West Indies and Latin America, are known as “historical epics,” and are both powerful and infused with magic.
