Inspiring growth and change through storytelling
This class gives storytellers and non-storytellers the tools to uncover and explore the deeper
meanings found in traditional narratives. Exploring stories from Hungary, Nigeria, South
Africa, Egypt, Eastern Europe, and India, students begin by dissecting stories, their symbols
and metaphors. After uncovering the first “obvious” set of meanings, they then consider
alternative storylines and impacts. Students will find meanings below the surface that often
affect the listener – and the storyteller – without their awareness.
Co-taught with Jim Brulé & Sara Armstrong
Note: Students who wish will be able to present one of the class’ stories in a Showcase
event.
