The Woodpecker and the Hummingbird

June 28, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

The Woodpecker and the Hummingbird

Theme: Balancing loss, transformation, and joy

Jim Brulé and Linda Schuyler Ford

Using both personal and created stories, Jim and Linda will lead the group on a journey to explore the interdependence of loss, transformation, and joy. Participants will be compassionately guided to consider how they balance these forces in their lives, and how they might offer their own gifts to others facing loss.

OARS in the Water is a facilitated Zoom gathering on the second and fourth
Wednesday of the month offered by Healing Story Alliance to create a listening space
to share the experiences and stories that have emerged through turbulent times. This is
not a therapeutic circle but we do hope it will be healing, supportive, and inspiring.
Admission is free, although donations are deeply appreciated and help support our
programming. Your tax-deductible donation can be made here:

We’ll gather via Zoom. Here is the NEW link:

About our Hosts for June 28th

Jim Brulé is a transformational storyteller, death doula, teacher, and mentor with a diverse background: he has advanced degrees in clinical psychology and artificial intelligence. His online school – Transformational Storytelling – trains spiritual storytellers from multiple traditions to tell stories that inspire healing and spiritual growth. He offers a series of classes and workshops on storytelling focusing on multi-cultural wisdom as well as facing end-of-life and grief. His current offerings include “Stories for Dying and Living” and “The Heart Knows.” You can find out more here:

Linda Schuyler Ford is a therapeutic recreation director, support group facilitator, death doula, and case manager at North Florida’s lead agency dedicated to helping low-income Elders survive and thrive. Her 30 years of service to Elders is woven into her passion for storytelling, leading to the creation of “Five Smooth Stones”, a story-based retreat/support group for folks facing the loss of a loved one through death or chronic illness, and “There Was an Old Woman” a concert of stories about aging and ageism, as well as “Living (and Aging) Out Loud”, storytelling training for Elder care service providers.
