SUMMARY:The Tower and the Thorn
DESCRIPTION:The Tower and the Thorn:\nWeaving Transformation through Lanjeh and Lunja\nIn the shadows of our greatest fears lie the seeds of our most profound growth. \nJoin professional storyteller Jim Brulé for a four-session deep dive into two mesmerizing Moroccan variants of the “Maiden in the Tower” myth: Lanjeh and Lunja. While the world knows Rapunzel\, these versions offer something deeper: a story where the monster is a mother\, the escape is a transformation\, and the “hero” often fails because he cannot see the value in the struggle. \nThis is more than a folklore study; it is a journey through the Healing Monsters model. Together\, we will step into the role of the Weaver\, learning to take the fragmented threads of past trauma and spiritual wounds and spin them into a narrative of agency and anti-fragility. \nThis is a Diving Deeply Seminar. We meet every other week for 90 minutes to allow ample time for discussion and self-exploration between sessions. The cost for the general public is $100 for all four sessions; paid subscribers to the Healing Monsters substack are admitted for free. \nWe will meet on these four Wednesdays at noon Eastern: \n1 July\n15 July\n29 July\n12 August \nYou will receive a single Zoom link that will be valid for all four sessions.

SUMMARY:Storytelling as Civic Repair
DESCRIPTION:What if the stories we tell could heal the places we live? \nCities are living narratives. Yet\, in our fast-paced world\, many of these stories have become fragmented or lost. Join us for a transformative webinar exploring Storytelling as Civic Repair: Narrative\, Healing\, and Reconnection. 🌿 \nWe will dive into “Story as Method\,” moving beyond simple communication to view storytelling as a civic ritual\, a planning tool\, and a vital infrastructure of meaning. Together\, we will ask the key question: Who gets to tell the story of the city\, and how can storytelling reweave our civic life? 🌀🤝 \nFrom memory mapping to speculative design\, let’s rediscover how reclaiming our collective memory can serve as a pathway to social cohesion and city healing. \n🗓️10 June 2026 🕒15:00 – 17:00 CEST / 9:00 – 11:00 EDT📍Online \nThe session brings together three distinctive voices working across storytelling\, public leadership\, systems change\, civic imagination\, and place-based healing: Jim Brulé\, Dr. h.c. Violeta Bulc\, and Dave “Tex” Smith. \nFree Registration and more information: https://www.ecocivilisation.earth/events/storytelling-as-civic-repair-narrative-healing-and-reconnection/

SUMMARY:Diving Deeply into Tatterhood
DESCRIPTION:Join Jim Brulé and Marianne Jessen as we dive deeply into the story of Tatterhood\, a Norwegian tale about a fierce princess who rides a goat wielding a wooden spoon\, who must save her passively beautiful twin sister after a witch replaces her head with a calf’s head. Our four-session seminar will uncover the tale’s deeper meanings\, from the symbolism of her magical transformation to its roots in ancient Norse dualities of beauty\, power\, and worth. \nThis is a seminar series\, meaning that participants add their own research and understandings to the substantial material provided by the leaders. Register here! \nWe meet for four Fridays every other week from 6 Feb – 20 Mar\, inclusive\, at noon EST / 18.00 CET. The single Zoom link you receive will be the same for all four sessions. \nJim Brulé is a transformational storyteller\, death doula\, and teacher. He directs the Transformational Storytelling school\, accredited by the National Storytelling Network\, which trains spiritual storytellers from diverse traditions to craft narratives that inspire healing and foster spiritual growth. His Transformational Storytelling Community uses storytelling with communities to recall strengths and build new resilience. Jim received the 2025 Oracle Regional Service & Leadership Award (Northeast Region)\, and was one of the Guinness Book of World Records award winners as part of the 2025 Marrakech International Storytelling Festival. \nMarianne Jessen is a phonetician and linguist. Alongside her academic work\, she volunteers in her community and has trained in storytelling and mindfulness-based resilience teaching through seminars in Germany. Her personal interests include photography\, medieval and 20th-century history\, and exploring storytelling across different media as a way of connecting with others.

SUMMARY:Spiritual Partnership
DESCRIPTION:“Spiritual Partnership” is a complimentary introduction to an enriching series dedicated to deepening one’s spiritual life. This workshop is designed to focus on the art of spiritual storytelling\, or “maggidut\,” a practice deeply rooted in tradition and wisdom. In fact\, maggidut is a gateway to a world where storytelling transcends mere art\, becoming a profound spiritual practice that offers new perspectives on personal and spiritual growth. \nRegister here. \nThe structure of the ongoing program is thoughtfully modeled on the traditional Jewish concept of “chevruta\,” which emphasizes studying in pairs under the guidance of a teacher. This approach ensures an interactive and deep learning experience\, enabling participants to engage with spiritual texts from the Jewish tradition\, as well as a rich tapestry of folktales and spiritual stories from various cultures worldwide. \nThrough this immersive study\, students will not only gain a deeper understanding of these texts and tales but also forge meaningful connections with their spiritual partners. The program is a journey of discovery\, where each story reflects personal insights and universal truths\, and each partnership becomes a conduit for shared spiritual exploration and growth. \nLed by Maggid Jim Brule’\, who received his ordination (“s’micha”) as a maggid from Maggid Yitzhak Buxbaum z”tl\, the workshop offers a rare opportunity to work with an accomplished maggid and educator. Participants will explore the power of stories in connecting\, teaching\, and inspiring others – and ourselves. \nThis workshop provides a perfect platform to learn more about the program\, meet potential fellow candidates\, and ask questions about the goals and methods of the program. Importantly\, there is no obligation for continuing commitment; the full program is set to commence later in the spring.

SUMMARY:Challenging Journeys
DESCRIPTION:Challenging Journeys:\nA Romani and a Jewish Tale\nWhat could connect a magical story of Jewish mysticism and a story from oral folklore shared by a Romani woman in 1940s Hungary? For one thing\, they both transport us to unlikely and unforgettable settings and dimensions\, inviting us to leave our comfort zone\, and come back transformed – perhaps seeing the world with different eyes.   \nJoin us for this two-hour online workshop with Maja Bumberák and Jim Brulé. Join us on a journey where you can immerse yourself in storytelling – and in a discussion following each story. Your reflections\, personal sharings\, thoughts\, and questions generated by the story will be a valuable addition to the program\, which will be both interactive and – we trust – provoke growth and inspiration in us all! \n— \nMaja Bumberák is a renowned storyteller\, singer\, and educator based in Budapest\, Hungary. She tours the world\, sharing stories and songs from Hungarian folklore and other cultures\, in Hungarian and English. She also applies and leads story work in various group processes\, where self-awareness and the community- and bridge-building role of stories is emphasized. She was a scholarship holder of the Hungarian Academy of Arts from 2018-2022. She researches the oral tradition of Hungarian storytelling and conducts training in oral storytelling for teachers\, student teachers\, and other professionals. She believes stories can heal a community in a way nothing else can. Maja brings knowledge of stories from traditional Hungarian oral folklore and their cultural background.   \nMaja brings knowledge of stories from traditional Hungarian oral folklore and their cultural background.   \nJim Brulé is a storyteller\, teacher\, coach\, and organizational consultant whose experience spans several decades. As a transformational storyteller\, he creates opportunities for spiritual growth and transformation through encounters with stories\, whether in performances\, classes\, or individual guidance. He also serves as an interfaith chaplain in hospitals\, jails\, and psychiatric facilities\, and is active as a “death doula.” \nJim serves on the board as President of Northeast Storytelling and has delivered programs to storytelling organizations around the world. He teaches digital storytelling at the university level\, and has crafted training programs in leadership\, collaboration\, and issues of implicit bias for commercial\, non-profit\, and religious institutions.

SUMMARY:The Rose and the Musician
DESCRIPTION:The Rose and the Musician\nDiving Deeply into Stories\nNarratives possess multiple layers of meaning hidden beneath their facade. These interpretations evolve with every narration and every audience. As interpretations change\, so do the tales. \nJoin us for this two-hour online workshop with Maja Bumberák and Jim Brulé. We will begin with a story presented by Maja: a mystical account sourced from a Roma narrator in the latter half of the 19th century. Following the telling\, we’ll journey through the tale’s universe\, discussing its impact and the ways it touched\, inspired\, or stirred us. We and the story will ask questions of each other and see what answers might arrive. \nThe “Diving Deeply” series encourages attendees to immerse themselves in tales rich in metaphor and mystery. They’ll probe beneath the obvious\, uncovering the subtle messages that might escape a casual listener. Attendees will deeply engage with the narratives\, finding resonance in their imagery. \n— \nMaja Bumberák is a renowned storyteller\, singer\, and educator based in Budapest\, Hungary.
